Nixon – Hero or Villain

Class Hero of the Month: Cynthia Nixon for NY State Governor

Actor and LGBT advocate Cynthia Nixon is taking on Andrew Cuomo, the do-nothing governor backed by real-estate developer money who gives out tax breaks to corporations and the wealthy while the reliable transportation and rent stabilized apartments are taken from the working class. She has a Working Families Party endorsement and a platform that seems legit, including (but not limited to): progressive taxation, investment in infrastructure and renewable energy, public school funding, reinstituting rent regulation, passing the NY Health Act, and ending cash bail. As we’ve seen, film and TV celebrities sadly do EXTREMELY WELL in U.S. elections. So Miranda from Sex and the City is running for governor, and she’s going after Cuomo! Hell yeah!

Class Villain of the Month: Cynthia Nixon for NY State Governor

Freaking Miranda from Sex and the City is running for governor? What the literal f—? The solution to current, maybe-apocalyptic crises is assuredly NOT wealthy Hollywood politicians, even ones with acute white liberal guilt and the right talking points. Nobody, nobody, nobody nets $60 mil without exploitation. The system that richly rewarded Nixon steals labor, mistreats badly-paid production assistants (who generally can’t unionize), demands other “contract” workers take around-the-clock shifts without benefits or OT, bankrupts award-winning graphics studios with low bids, and pays rich creeps’ hush money. Can an actor who profited from this hellscape truly champion the “common people”? Don’t hold your breath.
